How to update the bootloader, firmware and kernel files of the VP5300?

Step-by-step guide

Please use the IDtechBootload.EXE program included in the firmware package you are provided to get the bootloader, the firmware, and the Kernel file all updated in the following sequences:

  1. Launch the IDtechBootload.EXE from the firmware package with the VP5300 connected (using the v1.00.020.0151.S firmware package as example)

  2. Follow the numbered steps in the screenshot below to get the bootloader_loader_Vx.xx_2.fm file loaded (the example below uses the V1.09 included in the package)

Wait until the reader sounds one long beep with the LED turns to solid green and the "Bootloader succeeded!" shows up as the screenshot below shows:

  3. Repeat the same steps in the screenshots above to get the bootloader_loader_Vx.xx_1.fm file loaded (the example uses the V1.09 included in the package)

  4.  Repeat the same steps in the screenshot above to get the VP5300_v1.00.020.0151.S_Test.fm file loaded (or the specific version firmware file included in the package)

Wait until the reader sounds one long beep with the LED turns to solid green and the "Bootloader succeeded!" shows up as the screenshot below shows:

  5. Get all the kernel files updated by following the numbered steps in the screenshot below:

When all is done, the LED on the reader should be back to solid green.

  6. Exit the Bootloader app, launch the uDemo and follow the numbered steps below to confirm the new firmware version.
Notice the "Test" at the end indicating this is a test firmware for a test unit only.
