How Do I Verify the Key in a SecureHead or a SecureMag?

Q: We have readers that are key-injected, but we are not sure if the key is the correct one. How can we verify which key is injected?



Follow the steps below to verify the key in your SecureHead or SecureMag:

  1. First, use the SecureMag USB Demo to send the Check Security Level command 52 7E to verify that a data key has been injected. Verify that the reader's security level is not set to level 1 (which indicates there is no key injected).

  2. Then, you can send the 52 51 command to get the KSN and check the KSI, which is the first few bytes of the KSN, to see if it's key for your payment processor.
