Overview

ID TECH offers both an Android and a Windows application to simplify the process of updating VP3300 NEO 1.01 readers to firmware version 1.10. Performing the update via these app completes the update without requiring users to send individual firmware commands or select files themselves.

Note that the update to firmware version 1.10 is a two-stage process; you must first update your VP3300's firmware to v1.05 via this application before updating to v1.10.

Part 1: Performing the Update to v1.05

Follow the steps below to update your VP3300 to firmware version 1.05:

  1. Connect your VP3300 to your Android phone or tablet with a USB OTG cable. Make your Android device has sufficient power to perform the update.
  2. Download, install, and launch the ID TECH VP3300 Firmware Update application: VP3300_Firmware_Update_101to110_Demo.apk
  3. Select your VP3300 device from the list.
  4. Tap OK to give the ID TECH app permission to update your VP3300.
  5. The app will initialize the firmware update process; do not disconnect your VP3300 during this step.
  6. After the app finishes initializing the update, tap Firmware Update at the bottom of the screen.
  7. When the update is complete, the screen displays "Firmware update is done successfully."

Part 2: Performing the Update to v1.10

After completing the process above, repeat steps 4 through 7 to update your VP3300's firmware to v1.10.

Part 1: Performing the Update to v1.05

Follow the steps below to update your VP3300 to firmware version 1.05:

  1. Download UpdateVP3300.zip and extract it to a desired location on your computer: UpdateVP3300.zip.
  2. Open the UpdateVP3300 directory and run UpdateVP3300.exe.
  3. Connect your VP3300 to your Windows PC via a USB-A to Micro USB cable when prompted, then press any key.
  4. The updater app will first update the VP3300 to v1.05, then prompt you to close the app and unplug the reader before finishing the update process.

Part 2: Performing the Update to v1.10

  1. Run UpdateVP3300.exe again.
  2. Connect your VP3300 to your Windows PC when prompted, then press any key.
  3. The application will display Firmware Update Successful upon completion.

Troubleshooting the Update Applications

Updating to v1.10 with the applications above should be straightforward, but there are a couple of helpful tips to follow:

  • If using an Android device to perform the update, make sure to use an OTG cable to connect to the target VP3300 reader.
  • If the update fails, attempt it again. The update process can, on occasion, fail to apply, and simply needs to be restarted.
