How to use the Selectable Kernels feature on NEO 2 Readers (VP5300) with an example?

Q: On the settings for a VP5300 (3C) and L100, is it possible to not prompt for PIN entry for debit transactions under $20?

A:

Yes, by using the selectable kernel feature, which allows you to change the kernel configuration during the transaction. In other words, you begin the start transaction phase with 3C. During the authenticate transaction phase, the reader switches to 4C when conditions meet the criteria.

You can set this feature globally in terminal data or individually in AID data. That means you can support PIN entry (3C) in all transactions, but when the amount is under the CVM limit, the reader switches to 4C to not prompt PIN entry.

To try this option, add the data below to the Debit AID:

The feature is available for firmware VP5300 FW v1.00.061.0338 and above.
