I was doing some tests with a RS232 interface SPT3-885-33-1NN0N-0C and sent the 5.4.6. Set Operation Mode [53 11] command with bit 0 set to 1, so the reader is in Plug&Play mode.
Now, I can not communicate with the Reader at 38400 bauds, when it is powered on, the LED stuck in amber and won't respond to any command. How can I restore the previous settings and go back to the non Plug&Play mode?
Answer:
There is a hardware difference between our RS232-PCSC interface reader(SPT3-86x series) and our standard RS232 interface reader(SPT3-88x series) even though they both work in RS232 serial communication interface. The RS232-PCSC interface reader has an 8 pin Molex connector on its PCA which takes an 8 pin serial interface cable. When it powers up, the Plug-and-Play Device ID String has to be sent to the host PC at 1200, 7, 1, M first through the 8th pin before it can communicate with the host in its default 38400 baud rate again.
A RS232 interface reader is not supposed to be set to the PCSC mode as it doesn't have that 8th pin in its hardware. The RS232 interface reader comes with a 7 pin Molex connector on its PCA with a 7 pin serial interface cable. When it was set to the PCSC mode, the LED will stuck in the amber indicating the reader is trying to send the Plug-and-Play string to host.
To get the RS232 interface interface reader out of the PCSC mode, please following the instruction below:
- Disconnect the power to the reader
- Disconnect the cable from the reader
- Solder a wire to short the pins as the picture shows here.
- Reconnect the cable and power up the reader
- Make sure the green LED will light up
- Send the 30 11 01 01 via Demo and make sure you get a success feedback with "90 00" in the response
- Now the device should be out of the PCSC mode. Test it in or Demo to confirm the unit is back to work
- Power down the reader and remove the short cable. And remember not to set it to PCSC again
