EMV readers must be "initialized" with the proper AIDs, CAPKs, and Terminal settings to work. Together these three things make up what we call an EMV Configuration Profile. Profiles differ depending upon many factors, such as supported card brands, desired terminal settings (for example, Unattended vs Attended), and the country intended for deployment.
We (ID TECH's support team) are often asked how a configuration profile should be set. The required profile is determined from the tests a reader must pass to receive an EMV L3 certification.
