How Do I Check the Encryption Status for my IDTECH Device?
Scope: This article applies to ID TECH NEO, NEO 2, and NEO 3 products, including Kiosk IV, Kiosk V, Vendi, VP5300, VP6300, VP6800, VP3300, VP3350, VP6825, VP7200, and related devices.
Check the encryption status by using the Get Data Encryption Enable Flag (C7-37) command, as outlined in the NEO and NEO 2 IDG. Contact your ID TECH sales representative for details.
Run the C7-37 command from the ID TECH SDK Demo app.
In the demo, open Device, then select Send NEO Command.
Enter C7 in the CMD field and 37 in the Sub-command field.
After filling in the fields, select Execute Command.
The results window returns a 1-byte response that indicates the device encryption status. See the screenshot below.
There are four possible encryption states:
00: No encryption
01: MSR encryption only
02: EMV encryption only
03: MSR and EMV encryption
Note: A device can report an encryption status greater than 00 even if no key has been injected. Encryption status is not the same as key status. A reader without a data encryption key will not output encrypted data. An SRED reader without an injected data encryption key will not output any data, whether clear text or encrypted.
